Salcombe

I first visited Salcombe last year with my husband on a rare child free day off together. We decided to Park at East Soar Carpark, we were following a walk out of a book I had for Christmas about walks & Wild Swims. It was July and upon arriving at the carpark we sat there quite miserably waiting for the rain to stop. In fact it did not stop so we started on our walk anyway. As we approached the cliffs the mist blew away to reveal a stunning dramatic coastline and summer sunshine….Perfect. I was simply blown away by the views and knew I would return with my besties.

I returned on Sunday with 2 of my closest friends. . I did the same walk with thembut added in drinks and lunch. First Stopping at Bo’s Family run Beach Cafe Bar on South Sands Beach, you can hire water sports from here too. You can get a ferry from here into the town, which I wish we had done now on the way back. However we carried on walking to North Sands beach where we stopped for lunch at The Winking Prawn we enjoyed some seafood here sitting outside with a beautiful view of the beach.

Next we headed up yet another hill into Salcombe town itself. There are very few shops in Salcombe and I think that is why I like it. I had the most amazing blackberry and apple crumble ice cream. We headed to The ferry Inn beer garden for a salcombe gin. This place has amazing views of the water, while sitting there it feels like you are actually on the water. I sat here last time with my husband and it always seems like a popular place without being too busy.

We walked back almost the same way as we came however took the route past the National Trust Overbeck’s Garden which has similar views to the first part of the walk overlooking the coast but framed by the tropical plants in the garden. From some angles it really feels like you could be abroad however with Englands distinctive green fields in the back ground hugging the coast you realise you are in fact in glorious England.
