Moved to Devon..
At the beginning of 2021 I had no idea by the end of it we would be living in Devon. I put my dreams of moving to the South West to bed a long time ago. If you told me I would be living in a place called ‘Bishops Nympton’ 5 years ago I would have thought you were having me on, and yet…here I am.
Being in the navy brought my Auntie and uncle to North Devon over 60 years ago. When I was younger whenever I would visit, I would fall in love with the sea every time, no visit was ever long enough to satisfy me. Years later ,while at uni, I passed up the opportunity to go to St Ives uni to stay local, for a boy,….trust me never do that. Anyway fast forward to the summer of 2021 my husband told me there is opportunity for us to move to The South West for his work. Although not unhappy in Derbyshire, I Knew in an instant I would not let this opportunity escape us, after the pandemic it was defiantly time for an adventure!
Within a week we had sold our house we had spent the last 3 years renovating on a little budget and even less sleep (who’s idea was it to have a baby and renovate a house) . We have been renting for 6 months in Okehampton and finally found a house which we should be in by the end of July. I can not wait to have our Dog living back with us as we were unable to find a rental that would accommodate him. I miss him so much and it was never the plan to be without him this long. He is safe and happy at my parents but I know missing us. When I was back up at Easter when he saw we were leaving he faked an injury as he was so upset we were leaving. How do you explain to a dog we will be back as soon as we can (my husband says I worry too much) but what if he is thinking we will never come back. I am counting down the days I can bring him back down with me as we really aren’t complete without him. Note I am using ‘up’ referring to up north ‘down’ referring to Devon
I will be staying in Derbyshire a fair bit this June doing some weddings and can not wait to shoot my first Devon wedding.
I have given my self most of May to redesign my website and update it. I have no doubt nobody is actually reading this.
Exploring Devon
Since being here I have explored a lot of Dartmoor as it is on our doorstep, recently photographing the Bluebells overlooking Okehampton. Meldon Resivoir has been a popular walking spot for us. I am more familiar with the wild North Coast and love its natural beauty but eager to visit some of the South. Salcombe is definitely on my list. I had a trip to Exeter on the train with my 4 year old son who shouted “I WANT TO GO TO A FARM PARK” within 10 minutes of getting there. I will definitely be back to explore on my own.
The first few months living here in the dead of winter (It was initially just me and our son for a few months) was not easy and it took some getting used to however I can now say that I do not regret moving. I think once we are in our own home again that will make a big difference.
